Editorial Policy and Mission Statement
Founded in 1965, the Latin American Research Review (LARR) has been the official scholarly journal of the Latin American Studies Association since 1966. It is published three times a year (February, June, and October) and considers articles for publication in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Today, LARR is the leading interdisciplinary journal of its kind, with a long history of influencing not only how people think about and conduct research on Latin America, but also other parts of the world as well. The Editorial Committee at McGill University is committed to ensuring that LARR continues this rich scholarly tradition. More specifically, LARR’s editorial policy is to:
- Publish research findings relating to Latin America from a multi- and/or inter-disciplinary perspective, in a jargon-free format while remaining accessible to a general academic readership (see Submission Information).
- Give preference to work that draws attention to the linkages between research and its broader implications for theory and method.
- Invite original research based upon rigorous analysis of public policy outcomes, particularly where policy evaluation is framed within the wider theoretical and practical implications for Latin American societies.
- Take the lead in encouraging new research and ways of thinking that challenge mainstream theory and empirical work.
- Provide a breadth of disciplinary and country representation within every issue.
- Publish thematic book review essays commissioned from specialists in the field (see Review Essays).
- Publish "Research Reports & Notes" that provide an outlet for brief
commentaries on methods, archives, new research material or data that will
assist or stimulate further research in a specific field (see Submission
Information).
