Does LASA2009 have a theme?

Yes, the theme is "Rethinking inequalities." All related information can be found on our website at http://lasa.international.pitt.edu/congress/about.html

I am interested in participating in the Congress. What options do I have?

An individual may participate as: paper presenter, chair, discussant, or workshop participant. (See Participation for more information and for permissible combinations of these roles.) You may also be exclusively an attendee.

I would like to present a proposal. What are the types of proposals?

Session proposals and Individual proposals.

What are the differences between a Session and an Individual proposal?

A Session proposal is created by a group of individuals who wish their Session to be considered as it is constituted. An Individual proposal is evaluated by a Track chair, and if accepted, is paired with others in a new or existing Session.

What are the different types of Sessions?

  • Panels: presentation and discussion of papers prepared specifically for the Congress. Proposals should include a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 papers. The Program Chair has the prerogative to add panelists to any Session with fewer than 6 presenters. During the panels, papers should be summarized only, to provide adequate opportunity for discussion and audience participation. Panel chairs normally will set time limits.
  • Workshops provide an opportunity for the exchange of information and ideas among several individuals. They are organized to address a theme; discussion is informal, and workshops do not include formal paper presentations.
  • Events, Meetings and Special Sessions: LASA and non-LASA affiliated meetings, receptions and other special events.

What are the official languages of the Congress?

English, Spanish and Portuguese. Participants are free to employ any of these languages.

What is a Program Track?

The thematic areas to which you may refer your proposal.

What are the Program Tracks for LASA2009?

That information can be found on our website at http://lasa.international.pitt.edu/congress/tracks.html

I have not been able to attend to the last two Congresses. Are presenters still required to take 30 hard copies of their papers?

No. LASA now makes papers available on CD-ROM. A presenter wishing her/his paper to be included on the CD needs to email a final copy of the paper to lasacong@pitt.edu in PDF or Microsoft Word format by the deadline to be defined.

Who may apply for travel grants and what is the application process?
