Frequently Asked Questions

Chairs, Organizers and Discussants

How will it be indicated that two of us are organizing a Session?

LASA permits co-organizers for the panels; however only one will be listed in the Congress Program. Co-organizers will need to indicate whose name should be listed as Session organizer.

I'm organizing a panel and was wondering if the chair has to be one of the participants of our panel or can he just perform as chair without presenting.

The chair is not required to present a paper.

Our Session has co-chairs. How should we indicate this on the on-line forms?

Send the name and contact information of the second chair on a separate Word document. Send both attachments (the proposal and the additional document) in the same e-mail to lasacong@pitt.edu.

Both co-chairs will present papers, but they will not necessarily be the first two papers on the panel. How should we indicate this?

You are free to determine the order of the presentations in the actual Sessions, regardless of the order you indicate on the submission forms. The order of the presentations on the forms, however, is what will appear in the Program Book.

May a person organize two panels even if s/he presents a paper in only one of them?

Yes.

Is it mandatory to include a discussant in each panel?

No.

Our panel will have two discussants, but there is only one form for a discussant. How should we proceed?

Send the name and contact information of the second discussant in a separate Word document. Please send both attachments (the proposal and the additional document) in the same e-mail to lasacong@pitt.edu.

Is there a maximum number of discussants?

Yes-there is a limit of two discussants in a panel.
