Established in 1991 to fulfill the University’s three-fold mission of research, teaching, and service, the CRI has gained national recognition as one of the leading centers of academic studies on Cuba and its diaspora. The CRI draws upon the Cuba-related expertise of more than 40 FIU faculty, the largest nucleus of faculty experts on Cuba and the Cuban-American community of any university in the US. The CRI’s faculty affiliates are distributed across the various colleges and schools of the university, from the humanities and the social sciences to education, business, and public affairs. The CRI also benefits from its location in Miami-Dade County, home to the largest concentration of the Cuban diaspora. The CRI is housed within FIU’s renowned Latin American and Caribbean Center, a Title VI National Resource Center for foreign languages and area studies. Minimum Requirements:
The position of CRI director is composed of a 0.5 administrative assignment at CRI accompanied by a 0.5 faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. The director will teach a halftime course load, represent the CRI to the academic and wider community, engage in grantsmanship and fundraising, and oversee the day-to-day administration of the Center. The ideal candidate will have a relevant doctorate, a distinguished research and teaching record in Cuban and/or Cuban American Studies, and administrative and fundraising skills. The candidate will present a vision for how a multi-disciplinary institute on Cuba and Cuban-Americans can and should evolve its research, teaching and service agendas, as well as its relationships with the university, other academic institutions, and the local, national, and international communities. The candidate must also be tenurable at the associate or full professor level in the appropriate academic department. The start date is August 15, 2008.
