Guatemala Human Rights Commission/USA

The Guatemala Human Rights Commission/USA is seeking a Director to lead the organization in program and financial development.

Organizational Description:
The Guatemala Human Rights Commission/USA, founded in 1982, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, humanitarian organization that monitors, documents, and reports on the human rights situation in Guatemala, advocates for survivors of human rights abuses in Guatemala, and works toward positive, systemic change.

Responsibilities:
The Director, in conjunction with the Board, is responsible for ensuring the ongoing creativity, effectiveness, and financial stability of the organization. The Director is responsible for the overall management of the organization and will take the lead in programmatic, development, and some administrative areas. The Director will maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Program Assistant, consultants, and interns/volunteers.

Minimum Requirements:
•Familiarity with the history of Guatemala

•A strong commitment to human rights and social justice issues as they relate to Guatemala

•Able to articulately address human rights issues in a variety of situations, including media interviews, meetings with U.S. and Guatemalan government officials, and meetings with Guatemalan human rights leaders

•Fluency in English and Spanish, both oral and written

•Able and willing to travel to Guatemala as part of a group or independently

•An understanding of grassroots organizing and event planning

•Experience and demonstrated success in fundraising

•Able to work well as part of a team, both in leading staff and taking direction from the Board

•Able to multi-task and prioritize multiple responsibilities

•Familiarity with current office technology and computer programs

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience living and/or working in Guatemala or Central America strongly preferred

•B.A. required; M.A. preferred

Additional information:
Two-year commitment preferred, subject to a favorable evaluation after the first three months. Good health benefits provided, as well as four weeks of paid vacation. Salary Range: $35,000 - $40,000, commensurate with experience.
