Assistant Professor in Ethnomusicology

Description:
Tenure-track assistant professor position in ethnomusicology, beginning Fall 2008. Preference will be given to applicants with a specialization in the musics of the circum-Caribbean or Mexico and the Borderlands. We will also consider applicants with other specializations that complement our faculty’s current research. The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology http://www.indiana.edu/~folklore/ is an innovative, interdisciplinary center for the study of traditional creative and expressive forms, with a broad international focus and with special strengths in technological applications, museum studies, and archiving.

Minimum Requirements:
Candidates should be broadly conversant with the theoretical and conceptual aspects of ethnomusicology. Applicants are expected to have a strong research agenda, a plan for publication, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. in ethnomusicology or a related field by the date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ability to teach performance courses in the area of specialization is desired but not required
