Global Studies: Cultural Studies – Visiting Position

Visiting Faculty position in Global Studies: Cultural Studies: The Global Studies Department at St. Lawrence University seeks applicants with expertise in cultural and multicultural studies. Preference will be given to those working in border studies or with a transnational approach to the cultures of the Americas. The person hired must be able to teach core courses in race, culture, and identity and theories of cultural studies as well as electives in her/his field. Applications are encouraged from people who enjoy working at the boundaries of disciplines, area studies, and interdisciplinary studies. Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with the theoretical debates surrounding area, global, development, ethnic or post-colonial studies and significant experience in transnational or comparative analysis.
Ph.D. by the time of appointment is expected. Candidates must present evidence of excellence in teaching. Teaching load is three courses per semester. Teaching will probably include supervising one to two senior independent projects and participating in departmental review of the projects.
Global Studies is a cross-divisional, interdisciplinary program drawing its depth from area studies and its theory and methods from political economy and cultural studies. The major includes core courses in global processes, race and ethnicity, comparative methods, cultural studies, theories of political economy.
