Minimum Requirements:
●Ph.D. or ABD by the time of appointment in Spanish (Latin American specialization), or in a closely related field. ●Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.
●Research and publication record commensurate with rank.
●Experience or interest in working in a foreign language department serving M.A. students, majors and minors in several languages.
●Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Preferred Qualifications:
●Specialization in Mexican, Central American, Caribbean literature or related field.
●Experience teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture courses.
●Publications in Mexican, Central American, Caribbean Literature or related field.
● Strong commitment to teaching at the graduate (M.A.) and undergraduate levels.
●Leadership in promoting and developing study abroad programs.

Duties:
●Teach courses appropriate to disciplinary expertise and to the specific academic assignment: language and survey courses at the upper-division level; develop and teach courses in the area of specialization for the B.A. and the M.A. programs.
●Maintain an active research program and profile.
●Undertake grant writing and development projects that promote the departmental agenda.
●Collaborate in assessment planning and implementation.
●Advance the department’s educational and research mission through curricular initiatives.
●Work with the Single Subject Program in Languages Other Than English in collaboration with the single subject coordinator.
●Enhance departmental profile throughout the University and the Long Beach community.
●Provide service to department, college, university, and community committees as appropriate.
