The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Loyola College in Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track position in Latin American Literature and Culture. Applicants whose research and teaching specialties are from the following areas are encouraged to apply: pre-Colombian literature, poetry, testimonio, theater, criollismo, negrismo/negritud or the literatures/cultures of the Caribbean, the Southern Cone, or the Hispanic/Latino United States. The person appointed will be responsible for teaching interdisciplinary Latin American and Latino Studies courses in Spanish with an occasional offering in English. Other teaching obligations will include courses in Latin American Civilization, Composition and Conversation, and Intermediate/Introductory Spanish. Applicants should be familiar with a variety of teaching methodologies and curricular perspectives. The ideal candidate will be committed to implementing curricula that address multicultural issues, to teaching diverse students and to working in multicultural environments. S/he should also be willing to advise study-abroad students going to Latin America, and participate in student- and department-related activities.

Ph. D. in hand by June 1, 2008. Evidence of scholarly promise and teaching excellence. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.
