Head Librarian, Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection

Description:
The Head Librarian of the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection is responsible for the administrative oversight of the Benson budget, staff, collections, services, facilities, and programs for the delivery of library and information services in Latin American and U.S. Latino studies to the campus, the state, and the world. The Head Librarian promotes library resource development, leadership in U.S. Latin American librarianship, national and international collaboration with other Latin American libraries, collections, and librarians, relations with national and international leaders in the field, and relations with other organizations on campus and in Texas focusing on various aspects of the culture, economics, life, and study of Latin American countries. The Head Librarian participates in development, fundraising, and grant writing activities and reports to the Vice-Provost and Director of the University of Texas Libraries.

Minimum Requirements:
A combination of coursework in the area of Latin American studies plus an MLS (from an ALA accredited graduate or equivalent program) or doctoral degree in an area of Latin American studies, computer science, or information systems. Substantive experience in management and administration of library services and collections with a strong emphasis on Latin American and Latino studies, focusing on strategic and tactical planning and overarching issues. Evidence of successful fund-raising or development accomplishments. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese. Knowledge of Latin American and Latino studies print publishing, book trade, and related digital initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of current research in Latin American and U.S. Latino studies. Ability to work with the university community, particularly the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies and the Center for Mexican American Studies. Experience in collaborative efforts with other U.S. Latin American libraries and collections. Demonstrated commitment to increase the world’s access to Latin American research resources, to encompass emerging areas of research, and to advance Benson Collection programs through the use of digital technologies. Ability to assume a leadership role in effective and innovative approaches for providing access to research materials. Demonstrated successful entrepreneurial initiative in development and fundraising
