Assistant Professor - Spanish

Description:
Westfield State College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Spanish for the Fall of 2008. The newly-formed department of World Languages, Multicultural, and Gender Studies offers a minor in Spanish as well as minors in multicultural studies and women's studies. Primary duties will consist of teaching Spanish language courses at both the elementary and advanced levels, as well as literature and culture courses focusing on the Hispanic world broadly, including U.S. Latino populations. This position will afford an opportunity to develop new courses as appropriate in an interdisciplinary context, with the goal both of expanding Spanish language offerings and of fostering strong links with other program areas. Field of specialization is open; an interest in multimedia approaches and technology-enhanced language teaching will be an asset.

Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. in Spanish, Latin American Studies or relevant cognate discipline is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
We seek a candidate with native-like fluency in English and Spanish who is willing to work in a strongly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment focused on teaching excellence and program growth.
