The LASA2018 Film Festival is delighted to invite filmmakers from around the world to submit their Latin American productions. Featured and short films produced in 2016 and 2017 will be accepted. They can be in the form of a documental, a fiction, an animation and an experimental film. The purpose of the Festival is to bring to light the wide range of global film productions regarding Latin-American themes.
The film selection process will take into consideration the artistic and technical quality of the film, its contribution to the Latin Americans’ reflection and discussion of their political, social and cultural affairs; its contribution to the birth of the film industry in the region; and its relevance to the themes of the congress.
The selected films will compete for the LASA2018 Film Merit Award and for two honorable mentions.
It is not a requirement to be a member of LASA to participate. With the exception of Portuguese, it is required that films not spoken in Spanish have subtitles in this language. For selection, it is optional for films in Spanish or Portuguese to present subtitles in English, and if they are chosen for exhibition, they must have subtitles in English.
The submission of films for consideration must be sent between the 1st of July and the 1st of October of 2017. The selected films will be announced on the 15th of December of 2017. The filmmakers will receive an email to let them know the next steps.
