International Congress


Please read the following information carefully if you have been accepted to be part of one of the LASA2017 sessions.

About Session Changes

Changes allowed : Contact information updates and slight title changes in papers and sessions. Participants may be substituted if a cancelation occurs as long as the substitute complies with the Guidelines for Submission.

Changes not permitted: Addition of papers and/or roles (presenters, chairs, discussants, etc.).

Send your changes to  no later than Tuesday, March 14, 2017 (17h00 EDT).


Acceptance as an official LASA2017 Participant or a renewal of membership for 2017 does not signify an automatic LASA2017 registration. For LASA2017, all accepted participants must pre-register to the congress by Tuesday, March 14, 2017 (17h00 EDT) or their names will not appear in the Program Book and they will be unable to participate in the congress. Additionally, the panel may be cancelled*. Registration Site

* LASA’s policy states that panels must consist of a minimum of three distinct papers from pre-registered authors. Panels that do not meet the minimum paper requirement will be modified. If you find that you are not able to participate in the Congress please notify your session chair and the LASA Secretariat immediately.

Day and Time Schedule

The schedule of sessions by day and time will appear in the preliminary program that will be posted online. Congress sessions will be scheduled Saturday, Sunday and Monday, April 29-30, and May 1, 2017 from 8:00 am – 7:45 pm.

The Welcoming Ceremony and Reception will be scheduled Friday (evening) and meetings and receptions will be scheduled on Sunday beginning at 8:15 pm and leading up to the Gran Baile which begins at 10:00 pm.

Grants for Travel and Lectureships

The level of financial support for Congress travel and for lecturing fellowships for Latin America and Caribbean based applicants is limited. Accepted and rejected individuals, who applied for funding by September 7, 2016, will be notified about their requests by January 20, 2017. Please do not make inquiries to the Program Chairs, Track Chairs or Section Chairs regarding the status of funding requests.

A Serious Commitment

Your standing as a participant in LASA2017 brings with it significant responsibility to your colleagues, to the Latin American Studies community, and to the Association. LASA International Congresses provide opportunities to disseminate research findings, exchange ideas and make contact with other professionals from many countries. Individuals may be seriously inconvenienced and disappointed when they attend sessions only to find that persons they looked forward to hearing and seeing fail to appear. Do not be recorded as a "no-show." If for any reason you cannot attend, inform the Secretariat by April 1, 2017.
