Description:
Congress theme: Between Indigeneity and the Transnational: Place and Mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin America and Caribbean region has been politically and economically dominated for centuries by non-indigenous peoples. The 2012 CALACS conference to be held in Kelowna, British Columbia, in the heart of the Okanagan First Nations territory, convokes scholars from across the social sciences and the humanities, as well as activists and artists, to reconsider notions of place and mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the variety of transnational and borderless social interactions that contest legacies of imperialism, colonialism, exclusion and violence across the Americas and the Caribbean. In addition to this central theme, the conference welcomes submissions related to other themes involving Latin America and the Caribbean.
Relevant information for prospective participants will be posted on the congress website in the coming weeks: http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/latin/CALACS2012.html
