Description:
American University (AU) seeks the inaugural director of a new Center on Latin American and Latino Studies. The Center will report to the Office of the Provost and will bring faculty together from across campus to engage in research, proposal development, and scholarly exchange. With over 60 faculty currently engaged in research in the area of Latin America or Latino Studies, AU is interested in galvanizing these resources under a center that will be internationally acclaimed for its contribution to this important area of study.

Deadline:
Consideration of nominations and applications will begin June 1, 2009, and will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have a terminal degree, prior experience leading nonprofit research centers, a proven track record of external funding, and have recognized scholarly expertise in Latin American and/or Latino Studies. The selected candidate is eligible for consideration as a member of the tenured faculty, rank (Associate or Full) and scholarly discipline open, in the field of Latin American and Latino Studies to begin Academic Year 2009-2010.

Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate will provide leadership in tapping the existing AU capability and craft funding strategies to foster larger scale research and data bases pertinent to the subject. The vision and scope of the new center, its priorities, staffing, management, and potential collaborative partners will fall under the responsibility of the inaugural director.

- A letter describing research and teaching interests and relevant professional experience including a brief statement on the vision for such a center and how it would be similar or different to other such research centers and institutes in this field;

- Curriculum Vitae;

- A copy of two different but relevant publications.
