Willamette University’s Department of Politics invites applications for a tenure-track position in Comparative Politics at the level of Assistant Professor beginning fall 2010. We seek a broadly trained scholar with research and especially teaching interests involving the study of politics in Latin America. The position is open as to specific research focus and teaching strengths, but presumes a breadth of interests that will enable the hire to contribute to multi-disciplinary degree programs in Latin American Studies and International Studies.
The eight member Department of Politics sustains one of the largest undergraduate majors, with coursework spanning sub-fields and informed by qualitative methodologies. The teaching load is 3-2. The successful candidate will offer introductory courses in comparative and global politics, and advanced level courses of her or his own devising and in her or his areas of expertise, supervise senior thesis students, and contribute to general education and interdisciplinary programs (besides the two mentioned above, other possibilities include Film Studies, Women’s & Gender Studies, and American Ethnic Studies) as part of a general commitment to the liberal arts.
